What Happens When an Item Is Sanctified?
Sanctifying a piece of Diablo 4 Items gear can trigger multiple powerful effects:
Add a bonus Legendary Aspect.
Upgrade an existing affix into a Greater Affix.
Add a new Sanctification-exclusive affix (e.g., global skill bonuses, CDR, attack speed)
Replace one existing affix with a random Sanctification affix.
Add 5-25 Quality as a bonus roll.l
Rare chance to gain a Unique or even a Mythic power
PTR testing initially showed inconsistent rolls, but Blizzard confirmed increased odds for high-value outcomes in the final patch. This means Season 11 players will enjoy more reliable chances at elite affixes during Sanctification.
Overall, the system is high-risk, high-reward, with the potential to create some of the strongest items in Diablo 4 history.
How to Sanctify Items in Diablo 4
Sanctification is unlocked in two phases, depending on your progression: pre-Torment and post-Torment.
1. Pre-Torment: Early Access via Heavenly Anvil
Before reaching Torment difficulty, Sanctification can only be accessed through the Heavenly Anvil, which appears after defeating a Lesser Evil during specific activities-most notably Helltide events.

If you decline, you must defeat another Lesser Evil to unlock. This early access is limited and intended as a preview of the system.
2. Post-Torment: Full Access Through Heavenly Sigils
Once you enter Torment difficulty, you gain reliable and repeatable access to Sanctification via Heavenly Sigils, a new seasonal currency.
Heavenly Sigils drop from:
Seasonal bosses (Astraroth, Belial, Bartok, etc.)
Seasonal endgame content
Seasonal event rewards
These Sigils allow you to sanctify gear as part of the regular crafting loop. Stockpiling buy Diablo IV Items ahead of time can help streamline this process.
